I was invited to a collaborative exchange with Nathan Lafayette, Dancer and Creative Artist from Birmingham, who works with Video and Film to tell his stories.
The 'task of the day' was that he would make beats on the spot to Dance and move to, while I sat across the room and painted a response.

I guess you could say it was about interpreting his movement and translating it into a painting or picture.
As someone who usually paints still images or photographs, paintings subjects in motion was definitely a challenge for me, and I wasn't overjoyed with the paintings I made in response. But I could see why Nathan wanted to try it out, as he constantly reminded me to treat it as open 'play time', just a free, equal exchange between two artists. And I enjoyed working with him to bring this vision to life.
He filmed this encounter to capture the visual interaction between the two art forms, inspired by Kendrick Lamar's Live Performance on the Ellen Show, 'These Walls'.
We also had a relaxed discussion over some Tea and Lego about interests and life, picking tasks to induce 'play' and get comfortable with each other. The way I see it was that it was about going back to the basics of making, Lego being one of our first sources of creativity during our childhoods, and using what you have to create.
Fun times! Thankyou for having me!
